Two Winter Supernove Remenants: Messier 1 and IC443, Something for everyone!

 




Over at Eadsy Astornomy LINK I shared a post on how to find Messier 1 and how to find IC 443. These are supernova remenants in Taurus and Gemni and are the remains of massive stars that exploded as supernovas and each left a pulsar. Both on the video and in the post I explain the differences between a Type Ia and a Type II (and Type Ib and Ic) and I even share a link to where you can listen to current pulsars! Head on over and if your new, learn how to observe your first supernova remenant, Messier 1. If your more experienced, try for IC443 and see what you can see. If you image, try imaging them! I know next time I am at a dark site I will be using the SeeStar on IC443 to see what it can capture! 



Two Articles to Share: Betelbuddy and The Sun is a Loner, it got out of its Open Cluster Quickly!

Just shared two articles over at Eadsy Astronomy LINK that discuss a paper where researchers look for information using spectroscopy to find Betelbuddy or Betelgeuse's companion and the results and how it fits with what we know about Betelbuddy.  

The second article discuses how using objects called Sednoids, we know that the Sun did not stay around in its open cluster for longer than about 50 million years before it left on it's own.  As a result our planetary system was not as impacted as it could have been if other stars had come near our star and their gravity would have impacted both the planets and the sednoids.
